Tricky People! Mini-Lesson
Tricky People! Mini-Lesson The philosophical framework of the Yello Dyno Program focuses on preventing victimization of children: removing potential victims from dangerous situations, and lowering the opportunity for predators to harm. All forms of victimization prevention are based on the four fundamental concepts found in The Yello Dyno Method™. This lesson teaches the first of the four fundamental lessons: Recognizing Situations and Behavior that Mean Danger. The misconception of "stranger danger" is corrected when children learn that, "It's not what people look like, their age, or if you know them - it's what they ask you TO DO that matters." To teach such an important, life-saving lesson to children, we use a scene from the Tricky People! viceo. An energizing and empowering scene set in a mall with kids and adults dancing to and singing the Tricky People! song. Children role-play tricks and, of course, Yello Dyno reinforces the Safety Rules. After the song, members of the Yello Dyno Band review behavior that means danger and key tricks used to lure kids: Compassion, Authority, and Bribery, plus the invaluable Safety Rule: "Take three steps back and run like the wind!" Although specific tricks are demonstrated, children easily apply the concept of Tricky People to anyone who means them harm, such as a bully, drug pusher, child abuser, etc. To remove fear and ensure recall of right action, The Yello Dyno Method™ uses song, rhyme and role-playing. The Yello Dyno Method™ is scientifically based on the Nobel Prize-winning research of Dr. Roger Sperry and the internationally recognized research on children in crisis of Dr. Bruce Perry, Ph.D., Civitas, Violence and Childhood Trauma: Understanding and Responding to the Effects of Violence on Young Children.
The Tricky People! Mini-Lesson includes: 1. The Tricky People! Mini-Lesson video 2. Yello Dyno's Tricky People! Mini-Lesson Guide for Teachers Note: Some materials are repeated in all curricula so several different teachers in the school can reinforce the lessons. Example: The Tricky People! video can be used by a substitute teacher. The music can be played while students are working on projects or music teachers can teach the safety songs. Materials can also be put in the library for parents. |
