I always read your Yello Dyno Memo tip to toe. There is no better e-zine out there for child safety. Yello Dyno covers the right topics in the right manner (thank-you for not dumbing down this e-zine) and is not afraid to tackle harder issues like violence in the media and in the games we allow our children to play. Your stuff is tough, factual, and fun - and we love it.

"It does not do you good to leave a dragon out of your calculations, if you live near him." - J. R. R. Tolkein - http://www.wizardacademy.com

Hurricane Katrina is sending Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide to a street near you...

In just a blink of an eye Hurricane Katrina smashed the safety net designed to track and control over 4,000 sex offenders living in the devastated areas. Citizens across the nation, and particularly Texans, who opened their homes, schools, houses of worship and housing projects to many of the 250,000 evacuees may be shocked by the type of people who may have entered their lives. Along with the good comes the bad, those with criminal records and violent crimes against children are part of the deal. Of the total number of refugees, over half are in Texas. Of the 4,000 sex offenders on the loose, only 40 have been accounted for in Texas. In Austin, Texas, several sex offenders from Louisianna were sheltered at the Austin Convention Center; those recognized were kicked out by police. - Tracking Sex Offenders

Photo: Researchers are exploring the roots of special deviance.(Read memo for more info.) For months, anyone could follow the epic struggle in the mind of Joseph Edward Duncan III - live, on the Internet. Duncan is charged with kidnapping Shasta Groene,8, along with her brother, Dylan who was killed. Inside the Mind of a Predator

Yello Dyno focuses on preventing children from becoming victims by teaching them how to stay out of harm's way with the unique Yello Dyno Method™. We take the power away from predators and give it to their potential victims. We also create a safety net for children by educating the adults in their lives.

Given an opportunity to slide into the shadows and disappear with hundreds of thousands of evacuees, many are not checking back in. Are we surprised? With pasts now hidden from view they are emerging with two elements necessary for their predatory natures to thrive, Privacy and Control, "PC." Since we do not know they are predators, we are extending them "Privacy" with our children, which allows their dark side to surface and take "Control" of the opportunity to prey upon our children.

It is chilling to know that one in five violent offenders serving time in a state prison reported having victimized a child. - BJS Survey of State Prison Inmates

Hurricane Katrina also forced hundreds of thousands of families to scatter across the country, leaving nearly 2,500 children missing, including 500 foster children who are under the state's care. Over six hundred have been found, but it is now feared that some of the missing children will be harmed. - American Press calls for re-building of New Orleans (Teach children how to stay safe in emergency situations: Yello Dyno Sez! Curricula )

Understanding the mind of preferential child molesters, pedophiles, with their sexual attraction to children is almost unfathomable for a healthy mind. "Their behavior is highly repetitive, to the point of compulsion, rather than resulting from a lack of judgment." - Dr. Ann Burges, Dr. Nicholas Groth,

Many, perhaps most, dangerous sexual predators appear to possess one or more brain abnormalities that predispose them to their extreme criminal behavior. These defects can be caused by traumatic childhood experiences, genetics or events that happen as a person's brain develops in the womb.

With the advent of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) it is now possible to see what pathways in the brain light up when we think certain thoughts. " ... The paths to pedophilia all seem to pass through a particular part of the brain. Located just above the ears, the temporal lobe is involved in face and object recognition, musical ability, personality and sexual behavior. If epilepsy or some other condition causes damage to the temporal lobe, a person can become sexually attracted to socially unacceptable stimuli.

"Igor Galynker, a psychiatrist at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City, has performed brain scans on 22 pedophiles and found that they had below-normal activity in the temporal lobe. Other studies have found a similar pattern. Medical journals describe rare cases of men who began molesting children when tumors invaded the same part of their brains; when the tumors were removed, their pedophilia subsided." - Inside the Mind of a Predator

Like rape, child molestation is one of the most under-reported crimes: only 1-10% are ever disclosed. - FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin. This simple fact helps us to realize that most child molesters go unprosecuted and often undetected. Predators count on our inability to believe they could be among us and even our friends. Yet we must pay attention because we and our children are the ones who pay the price. Counting on the penal system to alert us to those who are dangerous leaves hundreds of thousands who harm children with no accountability.

In the mid 90's, with the help of Yello Dyno's Advisory Board Members Seth Goldstein, Esq. and retired Major Calvin Jackson, both experts in pedophilia, I learned in depth about this form of predators. As a result I realized I was not going to be able to change their behavior, and recent MRI research validates my decision to focus not on the predators but on removing the prey, the potential victims, our children. Yello Dyno takes the power out of the hands of the predator and puts it squarely in the hands of children and caring adults.

Hurricane Katrina, in stripping away our illusion of safe kids, has opened the door for me to tell you about a true gift of safety. Seth and Calvin helped me create "The Eight Red Flags for Identifying Child Molesters" (found in Yello Dyno's Anti-victimization Special Report #1), and many children's lives have already been saved. The topic of child molestation activates fear, but fear is a natural instinct. It is a gift to warn us to act now. Special Report #1 provides action steps to protect your children. Will you use them? The Eight Red Flags should be taught to kids in 5th grade and up, Special Report #1 should be sent home to parents, and this memo should be emailed to everyone you know who cares about kids. By stripping away the veil of "PC, Privacy and Control" that gives predators the power to harm our children, we are taking back the power to protect the joy in our lives, our children. More information on reviewing our curricula.

REdS, Research and Educational Services recently conducted an evaluation of the Yello Dyno Curricula with 778 students in public school settings. The students were in K, 1st and 2nd grade. 51.3% were females and the sample was relatively balanced in the three grade levels. The findings show that 80.8% of the students tested demonstrated an increase in knowledge after one cycle of the Yello Dyno Curriculum.

Seth Goldstein, Esq. wrote the preface for the book, Raising Safe Kids In An Unsafe World.
